Brno Chevrolet Driver Highlight: Douglas Lundberg

Name: Douglas Lundberg
Age: 16
Location: Sweden
V-WTCC Car: Chevrolet Lacetti
V-WTCC Achievement: Winner of the Chevrolet Brand Cup Race at Brno

You won a Brand Cup event. Tell us your story of the races.
Yes it was great. I was not happy with my qualification at all and when the time ran out I was on a much faster lap. But still I qualified 2nd which is good.

Race 1 was extremely tough for me as I lost the force feedback in my wheel right at the start. I was not very focused because of this and I had a bad start, which cost me one position. I managed to get it back in the first corner, though. From there on I had a difficult race and made too many mistakes for my liking, because I found it hard to drive without the force feedback. I’m not used to that. I finished 2nd and was very happy with that.

In the second race I had force feedback again and it became a very nice race. I started from 7th place, but fell back to 8th right at the start. Then into turn one I took it easy since I knew that there would probably be some contacts between the other drivers. I was right and I came out 4th. Then I started closing in on the guys in front of me until I finally reached them. I was quite comfortable with my car when braking hard on the inside line so I knew that it was my best way to overtake. I used this and finished 1st after a very nice race.

How did you prepare for the races?
In most cases I’m well prepared for the race, but for this race I wasn’t. I like the track and knew that my line and driving was better for race than for a hot lap. I didn’t have time to make a setup so I got one from Attila Domján (a Hungarian simracer). So I didn’t do much practice and had no practice at all in race conditions.

How did you become a simracer?
I’m actually quite new to simracing. I started off with buying a new computer and rFactor in late August 2007 after I had found the SwedishSimRacers forum and I got excited about it. From then on I didn’t play much and drove only one or two races online until January 2008 when I started to race more online. Since January I joined several leagues in the middle of the season. I think these leagues are the best way to get experience in simracing. I also upgraded to a Logitech G25 and then I bought Race07 and GTR2. Just a few weeks ago I started a simracing team (Vrooum Racing) with my friend Tony Cederholm.

Are you a real racer as well?
Yes. I have been a kart racer since I was 7 years old. I have done some international races and championships but it’s difficult as I drive with a low budget compared to most drivers. This year I plan to do the Swedish championship and the European championship in the KF2 category.

What are your expectations for the Semi-Finals in Brno?
Unfortunately I will not attend to the Semi-Finals at Brno. But I will maybe try to qualify for Oschersleben or one of the others.

Do you have any tips for new drivers?
Try to drive many races, as experience is an extremely important factor for success.

Who will win the V-WTCC 2008?
That will be the most constant BMW driver.
