Brno Honda Driver Highlight: Tamás Bajka

Name: Tamás Bajka
Age: 20
Location: Tokodaltáró, Hungary
V-WTCC car: Honda
V-WTCC achievement: Winner of the Honda Brand Cup Race at Brno

You won a Brand Cup event. Tell us your story of the races.
I managed get the pole position in the qualification. After the start I got through the first turn still leading, but for five laps I was driving continuously checking my mirrors, since Gabriel was only half a second behind me. The last three laps I managed to pull away, so in the end it became a confident start-to-finish win. The second race was by far not that easy, but still I could climb up to 3rd position.

How did you prepare for the races?
I don’t like Brno, but I live very close, so I decided to be there.
I could reach this with a daily one to two hours of practise for two weeks. During this time I made some progress and gained some speed on this track. However Brno is still not my favourite; not like Brands Hatch and Monza are.

How did you become a simracer?
It was very simple. I purchased GTR 2 by the time it was released. If I remember well it was in 2006. By this time the FIA GT was at Budapest and I liked this championship a lot. I did not take racing too seriously by this time, yet. Later I got RACE 07, but still I played only rarely on the internet. Then I discovered the V-WTCC on the internet at the last qualification day for Valencia. I had no chance to get qualified for that race, so I immediately started to practise for Brno. You can say that I have been a simracer for about one month now.

Are you a real racer as well?
No, unfortunately not, but I would love to try my chances as a real race car. Once I can afford it, I will do it for sure.

What are your expectations for the Semi-Finals in Brno?
Judging by the times the BMWs are one-and-a-half seconds faster per lap on this track compared to the other cars and the Honda is the slowest. I will need all my experience to compete, but what I know for sure is that I will fight until the last meter, even if it is for the last 2 positions in the race.

Do you have any tips for new drivers?
Yes: do not try to win the race on the first corner!

Who will win the V-WTCC 2008?
This is a very difficult question. Taken into consideration that the final will be in Monza it will most probably be a BMW driver. Maybe Mattieu Prevot, Greger Huttu or David Greco will walk away with it.
