Bartsch Hits the Triple at Brands Hatch!
With his Semi-Final win Bastien Bartsch completes the Brands Hatch event with a triple victory and becomes the first driver ever in V-WTCC to win all sub-events.
After having won the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy Demo Race and the BMW Brand Cup Race, Bartsch scored the overall win in the Semi-Final as well. Bartsch took the pole and drove straight to the win in race one. Starting from eighth position in race two he had quite a struggle to march forward, but eventually still managed to grab second place and thus win the event with 18 points.
The previous Monza qualifiers are warned. They are
accompanied by a very serious contender here.
But let’s not forget about the other successful semi-finalists. Bartsch was joined on the podium by two fellow BMW drivers. Marco Schade was the only one to seriously challenge Bartsch’s domination and only he managed to beat Bartsch in race 2. With his podium finish in the first race, Schade safely earned a ticket to Monza. The third driver, Hendrik von Eye, had less of a domination streak, but still managed to grab a second place finish behind Bartsch and then secured the overall podium by finishing fourth in the second race.
Guy Edwards was the best of the rest in the Honda after Nick Ansell’s chances for a race two win ended during a fight with Marco Schade. His SEAT ended up in the gravel trap, which eventually dropped him back to eighth position.
