V-WTCC reaches far and wide

It has been whispered that V-WTCC is exclusively for European drivers with its European events. Nothing is less true. V-WTCC spreads far and wide…

Sure, the ranks are crowded with Europeans and all V-WTCC events take place on European soil, but nonetheless there is significant representation from other continents as well. Just like in WTCC.

 Already in the first event, Valencia, back in May, Brazilian driver Gabriel Bechtold qualified himself for the Semi-Final and was only prevented from taking part by bureaucratic lag around his visa. Last week in Brands Hatch even two non-Europeans qualified and turned up. Jason Pitts from the United States of America and Tony Gonzalez from the Canary Islands both came over to England to take a shot at the Yokohama tyres and a ticket to Monza.

Jason Pitts decided to implement Brands Hatch in a trip to some European countries, combining the Semi-Final with a holiday with his wife. “We went to Paris. My wife loves that city. Now, while I’m here racing, she’s doing a tour in London.” He told us he had enjoyed himself very much. “It’s a great, once in a lifetime experience, but it will unfortunately stay that way, as another trip would probably become too expensive” said a smiling Pitts.

Tony Gonzales had arranged things differently. He had made deals with local car dealers and the local newspaper, promising them exposure and a coverage in return for paying his trip to the UK. He established contact with some of the WTCC drivers and had some talks with them. We might hear about that soon… 

Who knows where the next qualifier comes from? Nothing is impossible!
